„Distortions of Normativity“
An ERC Advanced Research Grant Project

The project aimed to investigate transformations and distortions of normative, (i.e. moral, political and legal) orders and the distinction between legitimate and illegitimate practices in “non-ideal” political systems.

The project explored the following questions:

• How should we assess conceptions of normativity under non-ideal conditions?

• What is the relationship between legality and legitimacy under non-ideal conditions? What are the consequences of for our understanding of political authority?

• What exactly are the standards for acting morally under non-ideal conditions? What impact do normatively distorted background conditions have on our understanding of moral principles and the ways in which we apply them?
